It NEVER FAILS to rain on days we decide to day-trip to the mountains. We are no strangers to bobbing, weaving and hugging the curves of the Blue Ridge Mountains in downpours.
When we set out on our semi-spontaneous day trip to Boone for Brandon’s birthday weekend, we knew there was a chance of rain, but we took that chance.
We had a destination in mind, found it easily, parked the car and hopped on the trail. It wasn’t two minutes later that we heard the rain coming. It was sweet of the trees to give us a warning so we could find the most sheltered spot on the hiking trail to take cover.
And take cover we did. We huddled under a beautiful tree, contemplating turning back or waiting it out. We decided to wait it out and soon all the people who had been at the top made their way down the trail, past us, and back to their cars.
But still we waited. And I’m so glad we did.
The rain soon stopped and we made our way through the now muddy trail to the top of the mountain with the most beautiful view. And thanks to the rain, it was all ours.
We spent time taking in the view and then made sure to capture some sweet moments while we had the chance.
A quick 6 month maternity shoot for me and a quick GQ shoot for Brandon.
Can we all just stop and admire Brandon’s work as a newbie photographer?! I’m actually trying to talk him into joining me in photography as my second shooter. He has such a good eye and I’d love to work as a team with him!
We took in the view one last time and made our way back down the trail and wouldn’t you know it, as we reached the exact same spot as we waited before, the bottom of the sky fell out again. We didn’t wait it out, we ran back to the car in the rain, laughing the whole way.
I can’t stop thanking God for hitting pause on the rain just for us to capture some sweet moments on the mountain.
It was such a quick simple trip, but it will forever go down as one of my most favorite days with Brandon.
